About me and my practice

At Joanne Dixon Therapy, I work with both adults and young people, offering a safe and supportive environment for healing and personal growth. As a neuro-diverse counsellor, I use a personalised and intuitive approach, drawing from my own life experiences and various therapy techniques.

We are all unique individuals, and whether you need help with anxiety, depression, ASD, ADHD, grief, or other issues, I provide tailored counselling and coaching to help create a better environment for you. I offer customized short-term and flexible long-term therapy programs to meet each client's evolving needs, using a variety of therapies, coaching strategies, and physical support like body doubling and home organizing.

In family counselling sessions, I focus on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and building stronger family relationships. I take a whole-family approach, supporting parents in navigating the challenges of raising children and strengthening familial bonds within a safe, nonjudgmental space.

My child therapy sessions provide a supportive and understanding environment for children to express themselves and work through their emotions using creative methods adapted to each individual.

Experience

I am a level 5 Integrative Counsellor with a person-centred approach and I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. With over 25 years of experience in mental health, social care, and education, I work with children and young people ranging from 5 to 18 years old in educational settings. I also provide counselling in GP Surgeries to address various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and grief.

As a former foster parent, I have extensive experience in working therapeutically with trauma, attachment, and compassion fatigue. Additionally, I have considerable experience working with individuals who have neurodiversity. This allows me to tailor my approach to each client's unique needs. I employ a variety of therapies such as person-centred listening, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Creative/play therapy, Coaching, and Physical and Practical support (Body-Doubling) to meet the needs of each client at different stages of personal growth.
